Sawhill Ponds Wildlife Preserve Hike
Saturday, April 27, 2019, leave Augustana’s south parking lot at 9 a.m.
Just east of Boulder, Sawhill Ponds Wildlife Preserve includes 18 ponds, which are the result of a gravel mining operation and reclamation project. When mining ceased in the early 1970s, groundwater filled the pits resulting in a wetland area that provides marvelous habitat for many species of wildlife. Sawhill Ponds is home to many different kinds of waterfowl, fish, birds of prey, amphibians and reptiles. During spring and fall, the ponds provide a stopover for migrating ducks.
