“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is Sunday, September 11, 2022. This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ—every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life—flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

Operation Pantry for Metro Caring: Help portion rice and beans!

Sunday, September 11, 9:15–10:15 a.m., Fellowship Hall

Help feed our neighbors in need and join in fellowship with Augustana members and friends of all ages. As our participation in the ELCA’s “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday on September 11, we will again repackage approximately 4,000 pounds of dried rice and beans into 2-pound portions which will be given to Metro Caring for their no-cost nutritious foods market.

When you participate in Operation Pantry, please record your time on the Summer of Service online form or worship slip!

Support Operation Pantry with a gift

If you would like to contribute money toward the purchase of rice and beans, you may do so by check or online; make checks payable to Augustana Lutheran Church and indicate Rice/Beans in the memo line. You may also make an in-kind contribution of basmati rice and/or lentils.

Bishop Gonia preaches at Augustana on “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday

The Reverend Jim Gonia, Bishop of our Rocky Mountain Synod ELCA, will be our guest preacher on Sunday, September 11 at both worship services. Along with his staff, Bishop Jim accompanies the 159 ELCA congregations in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas. He served as a missionary in Madagascar from 1988 to 1998. From 1998 to 2009 he was called as the associate pastor of Atonement Lutheran Church in Denver. Prior to his election as bishop, he served the ELCA’s churchwide ministries as Global Mission Area Program Director for West Africa, Tanzania and Madagascar.

Bishop Jim will bring thanks to Augustana for our faithful ministry and our consistent support of the ministry we share with the synod and our churchwide organization. And he’ll be wearing a bright yellow t-shirt, too!
