Bring cans of chili for the Ninth Annual Augustana Canned Chili Challenge!
October 30–Thanksgiving Eve, November 23
Our Ninth Annual Chili Challenge began on Sunday, October 30 and ends at the Thanksgiving Eve worship service on November 23. We’ll team with the Augustana Early Learning Center children and staff collecting cans of chili while they enjoy friendly competition between their classrooms.
Please bring cans of chili (meat or vegetarian and preferably with pull-tab lids) to worship, and place them around the altar in either Christ Chapel or the sanctuary. We are continuing our tradition of dividing the cans of chili between Metro Caring’s Food Pantry, the George Washington High School food pantry, and our own Sanctuary Soup Shelf.
- Metro Caring operates one of Denver’s largest hunger-relief programs, including a fresh foods shopping market. See more about Metro Caring here: metrocaring.org/what-we-do.
- George Washington food pantry is operated through their Be Inspired Fund, which provides support to students with specific needs that might otherwise interfere with their academic success.
- Augustana’s Sanctuary Soup Shelf, begun early in the pandemic, continues to provide nutritious canned foods 24/7 to our neighbors in need.
Canned chili is a high-protein meal, and one can of chili weighs about one pound. Let’s be generous, as we always are, and partner with these worthy programs to reduce hunger in our community.
