This passage used during Lent seems particularly appropriate this year, since Ash Wednesday falls on February 14, Valentine’s Day! Just as we turn our hearts on that day to those we love and care about, God invites us to return to the love that comes to us in Jesus Christ.
There are two opportunities to worship on Ash Wednesday: 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Both services will have Holy Communion and the opportunity to receive ashes. The ashen cross on our foreheads reminds us of our mortality, but also of the hope of new life in Christ. Following 11 a.m. worship, there will be lunch served in Fellowship Hall; prior to 7 p.m. worship, there will be a pancake supper.
Nursery care will be available at 7 p.m. worship.
On the following Wednesdays during Lent (February 21–March 21), everyone is invited to gather for a simple meal at 6 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by the beautiful service of Holden Evening Prayer in Christ Chapel. This midweek meal and worship are a wonderful time to reset your mind and heart.
Throughout Lent we will hear scriptures that remind us again of God’s love, blessing, and our call to transformation in Christ. May our hearts be open to all of God’s promises during this season!
