Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a system through which Augustana members are trained and organized to offer one-on-one Christian caregiving to our members and those in the larger community. Stephen Ministers listen, reflect thoughts and feelings, and care for their care receiver. The Stephen Minister walks with the care receiver through a difficult time, such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, or a challenging medical diagnosis. In this confidential relationship the two people usually meet together weekly for about an hour. This is not therapy, but a time when deep emotional or spiritual issues can be shared.

If you are in need of a Stephen Minister, please contact Malise de Bree (debree@augustanadenver.org or 303-388-4678 ext. 122) or Sheryl Stenseth (stenseth@augutanadenver.org or 303-388-4678 ext. 106), the co-leaders of this ministry.

Counseling service offered at Augustana
Are you or someone you care about feeling “blue” or “nervous” or just not handling daily activities as usual? Mary Kennedy, LCSW, from Lutheran Family Services (LFS) will offer counseling to members of Augustana and the surrounding community on Thursday afternoons and early evenings in the Corner Room, located here in Augustana’s Education Building. Mary’s experience is with life transitions (especially aging), mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and grief. She can accept Medicare and other insurance plans or negotiate a sliding fee to make the service more affordable. If you want to know more, call Mary (303-217-5843) to discuss how counseling can help you feel and function better or to schedule an initial session. All information is confidential as LFS is under HIPAA guidelines.
