Where Faith Begins
It all begins at Holy Baptism, and Augustana supports families of the newly baptized. Families of newly baptized infants and toddlers are enrolled in our Splash program, with monthly mailings that nurture the the whole family. Because ministry begins with baptism, the Augustana Foundation also gives an investment gift in the Mission Loan Fund in the child's name. The Cradle Roll also supports during the first theree years of the newly baptized with mailings twice yearly. Pastors Pederson and Bengston would be delighted to meet with your family for a pre-baptism conversation. Just give them a call! Nursery Care is provided for children free of charge during all Sunday morning activities. Starting at 8:00 care is provided during worship, during education hour for those too young for Sunday School and also during worship at 10:30. The nursery is also staffed for congregational meetings and special worship services such as our Community Thanksgiving and lenten services. Sunday School begins in September and runs through May for children who are age 3 through grade 12. Augustana's Orchard - is our workshop rotational model Sunday School for those age 3 through grade 5. Sunday School begins at 9:15 in Christ Chapel with a time of singing and prayer that is open to parents and younger siblings as well. From there the children go to one of 5 workshops to study the bible lesson. The same lesson is taught for five weeks in one of five different workshops, Arts & Crafts, Drama & Storytelling, Activities, Movies and Games. This year's focus is on stories of Faith. We will be studying Joshua and the wall at Jericho, David & Goliath, Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego in the Furnace, Daniel in the Lion's Den, Resurrection Faith and the Stories of Peter. Please feel free to join us and check out this exciting new way of doing Sunday School Students in grades 6-8 participate in our confirmation instruction. This year we are using FaithInkubators Head to the Heart program. Instruction is combined with small group ministry, service and fellowship to make for a fun, faith forming curriculum. Once each month students participate in a service project either with the large group or as a small group. We also have a fun event for each month. High School Students participate in Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club meets in the youth room from 9:15 - 10:15. Students enjoy doughnuts, fellowship and a lively discussion focused on the biblical connection to one of the weeks current events. These discussions are led by a variety of young adults in the congregation. Some special learning events that occur throughout the year are presentation of Bibles to 2nd grade students in the early spring and a first communion preparation class for students in late elementary school that meets during lent with first communion taking place on Maundy Thursday.
