Augustana is pleased to host Augustana Arts, offering adventurous and entertaining programs to Denver, and AIM, offering music classes and private lessons. |
The music ministry at Augustana is open to all individuals who wish to share their voice or instrument in song and praise. All of the musical organizations at Augustana primarily focus on providing music for the congregation's worship services. In addition, many reach out to the community in sacred concerts and provide music at other venues. Adult rehearsals are scheduled throughout the week and Children's and Youth music rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons. We invite you to participate with us, as we worship the Lord through music. HOW GOOD IT IS TO SING PRAISES TO OUR GOD... (Psalm 147) Augustana offers vocal music opportunities for all ages. AVE (Augustana Vocal Ensemble) is Augustana's professional quartet. The only professional quartet in Denver sings in worship at the 8:00 a.m. service each Sunday (September - May) and often perform in and around the community and the United States. Chancel Choir -- directed by Dick Larson, this choir is open to all -- High School and Adult. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:15 p.m. resuming again for fall 2007 on August 29th. They sing at the 10:30 worship service most every Sunday and perform two to four concerts or major works per year. The major works for 2007-08 are A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms,John Rutter's Magnificat, The Seven Last Words by Cesar Franck, and A New Creation by Rene Clausen. All works are performed with the resident Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra. Please join us! Chamber Choir -- directed by Dick Larson. If you are interested in singing at a more challenging level, you may wish to audition for this group who will sing in worship every six to eight weeks and perform at two concerts during the year and join the Chancel Choir in singing the major works listed above. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m.The audition dates for fall 2007 are Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31 from 5 -9 p.m. Please contact Dick Larson (303-388-4678 ext. 111 or larson@augustanadenver.org) for an audition appointment or for more information. Senior Elite Choir -- directed by Arvid Brekke, this choir is open to senior adults who enjoy singing in worship once a month. Rehearsals are Fridays at 9:15 a.m. and resume again for fall 2007 on Friday, September 28th. The fellowship and music is outstanding. Y Hope -- Directed by LeEtta Choi and assisted by Marcia Olson, this choir is open to Middle and High School Youth. This choir sings the second Sunday of every month. In addition, preparing for and participating in the Rocky Mountain Choristers Guild Festival on Saturday, April 19th is a major event of the year. This year they will present Godspell at Augustana on May 4th at 4:00 pm Rehearsals are from 1:00 - 1:45 on Sundays with lunch offered from 11:30 - 12:15. The season begins again on September 16th Choristers -- Directed by LeEtta Choi and assisted by Sharon Schillereff. Open to children in grades 3-5. This choir sings the third Sunday of each month. In addition, preparing for and participating in the Rocky Mountain Choristers Guild Festival on Saturday, April 19th is a major event of the year. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons after Sunday worship from 12:15 - 1:00. Lunch is offered from 11:30-12:15. Cherubs -- directed by Marcia Olson. Open to children in grades K-2. This choir sings the first Sunday of each month. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons, after Sunday worship, from 12:15 - 1:00. Lunch is offered from 11:30- 12:15. PRAISE HIM WITH TRUMPET SOUND; PRAISE HIM WITH LUTE AND HARP!....(Psalm 150) Augustana offers instrumental ensembles for all ages Family Orchestra -- directed by John Richardson. This ensemble rehearses throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (June - August) and at 8:30 a.m. (September - May). Open to all ages. Recorders -- directed by Sharon Schillereff. This ensemble rehearses on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 - 1:45. Open to children in 3rd grade, this ensemble prepares the child for handbells in 4th grade, as they learn note reading and basic music skills. Lunch is offered from 11:30-12:15. Augustana Ringers -- directed by Cindy Lindeen-Martin. This adult handbell ensemble plays in worship the fourth Sunday of each month and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. Rehearsals resume on Wednesday, September 5th. BELLievers -- directed by Cindy Lindeen-Martin. This High School handbell ensemble plays in worship every 6 - 8 weeks and rehearses on Sunday afternoons, after Sunday worship, from 1:45 - 2:30. Lunch is offered from 11:30-12:15. GraceNotes -- directed by Cindy Lindeen-Martin. This Middle School handbell ensemble plays in worship every 6 - 8 weeks and rehearses on Sunday afternoons, after Sunday worship, from 12:15-1:00. Lunch is offered from 11:30-12:15. SONshine Ringers -- directed by Cindy Lindeen-Martin. This handbell ensemble is open to children in grades 4-5. They play in worship every 8-10 weeks and rehearse on Sunday afternoons, after Sunday worship, from 1:00-1:45. Lunch is offered from 11:30-12:15.
