About Augustana Homes

In 2019, the Augustana congregation voted to donate just under one acre of unused property on Dakota Avenue to affordable housing and chose Habitat for Humanity as its construction partner. Eight new homes will provide families the opportunity to purchase homes with affordable mortgages in a vibrant part of the city. Augustana Homes will be 100% electric and includes three- and four-bedroom layouts with two bathrooms, as well as outdoor green space and dedicated parking. Site preparation began in October 2023, and construction is expected to be completed mid 2025.

In September 2023, Augustana celebrated the beginning of the Augustana Homes development with Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver with a blessing for the construction process as well as the future families who will thrive in these homes.

In September 2024, the first team of volunteers started working on Augustana Homes. You can now see walls, floors, and openings for windows!

Site Host Volunteer Opportunity

We are looking for a few individuals to help on Augustana Workdays, which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This group of volunteers will receive the title of “Site Host.” The only qualification is a good morning smile, no carpentry skills required. However, each volunteer must agree to a cursory background check. You should anticipate that it will require about one hour of your time each morning you volunteer.

Site Hosts make such a positive impact on Habitat staff’s productivity. The benefit of having a Site Host is that the Habitat Staff will be more organized and start the work sooner, there are no construction volunteers standing around waiting for instructions, and most importantly, you will make the volunteers feel welcome and appreciated.

Here’s a brief synopsis of your job duties:

  • Assist in setting up the welcome table.
  • Ensure volunteers have signed a waiver and registered. You will receive a list of volunteers for the day.
  • Distribute hard hats.
  • Make sure everyone has a name tag.
  • Inform the volunteers where the restrooms are located and where they can fill their water bottles.
  • Direct the construction volunteers to the Habitat Staff.

Habitat Staff will conduct onsite training with our group. If you can’t attend the training session, you may shadow a trained volunteer to learn the job duties.

This volunteer opportunity isn’t going away anytime soon. Site Hosts will be needed until the homes are completed.

Here’s how to volunteer to be a Site Host

If you are interested in volunteering, contact Augustana’s office at 303-388-4678 or by email. Once a small group of volunteers has been identified, the first training will be scheduled. You will be contacted with specific date and time information.
