October 5 Blessing of the Animals
Bring your pets to 10:30 worship!
On the first Sunday in October, we remember Francis of Assisi, who died 799 years ago on October 4, 1226. Well-known for his love for all creatures, commemorations for St. Francis often include a blessing of the animals.
Augustana has planned a Blessing of the Animals liturgy for the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, October 5. Whether they have feathers, fur, or fins, we invite you to bring your pets (as well as stuffed animals and pet photographs if your pet is too lively to enjoy an hour of worship or you want to remember a beloved pet).
We will offer a pet-free seating zone for those who must keep their distance for allergies or other reasons.
As we bless the animals that day, we witness to God’s love, care, and concern for all of creation. We will give thanks to God for the animals that bring us joy, emotional support, and companionship.
