Midweek Walking/Hiking Event
At a recent organizational meeting with Augustana’s 60+ Ministry Team, we decided to have two outings each month: one will be an easy hike/walk (~3miles, very little elevation gain, good surface), the second will be of various difficulty (3–8 miles, with elevation gain, uneven trail). Here are details on the first of two hikes in April.
Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Lakes Ladora and Mary
- Wednesday, April 12, meet for carpooling: 9 a.m., Augustana’s south parking lot.
- Rating: easy, dirt and gravel path; elevation gain: none.
- To go, contact Augustana’s office at 303-388-4678 or by email. All ages welcome.
The Arsenal was developed in 1942 to make chemical weapons as a deterrent to the axis powers during the war. Now cleaned up, it is a wildlife refuge and has a herd of over 150 bison, hundreds of deer, prairie dogs, and bird species. We will hike around the two main fishing lakes. Bring binoculars. Afterward you many choose to drive the 10-mile Wildlife Drive loop and possibly encounter other wildlife. Or stop in at the Visitor Center.
